The Biblical account of Ishmael is the prelude to the founding of Islam. The narrative begins in Genesis 16:1-16:

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian maidservant named Hagar; so she said to Abram, “The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her.” Abram agreed to what Sarai said. So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me.”“Your servant is in your hands,” Abram said. “Do with her whatever you think best.” Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her. The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.

Then the angel of the LORD told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, “I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count.” The angel of the LORD also said to her: “You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.”

She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered. So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

Later, Abram pleaded with God concerning his first-born son in Genesis 17:18-21: And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before Thee!” But God said, “No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. “And as for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. “But My covenant I will establish with Isaac…”Abraham died at the age of 175, according to Genesis 25, and was buried by Ishmael and Issac. The next few verses list the twelve sons of Ishmael, and notes that they, like their father, “..lived in hostility toward all their brothers.” These events took place approximately 2000 – 1900 b.c. 2,500 years later (595 a.d.) Muhammed, who claimed to be a descendent of Ishmael, began to have visions in the midst of his epileptic seizures. By his own testimony, he considered them the result of demonic possession. His wife encouraged him that they might be from God.  He eventually agreed with her, in contradiction with his precept that the testimony of a woman is worth only half of a man’s.  Eventually, he claimed that his visions were from an angel, and were to be codified in a new holy book, the Qur’an. He acknowledged Jesus as a prophet, but insisted that Christians had perverted the Gospel message. Interestingly, the claims of Joseph Smith (who founded the Mormon church) would be strikingly similar centuries later.In sharp repudiation of Judeo-Christian tradition that spanned two and a half millennia, Muhammed offered a revisionist account of the Patriarchal record. According to him, Ishmael was the son of the covenant, not Isaac. It was supposedly Ishmael that Abraham nearly offered as a sacrifice. The site of the event was revealed to Muhammed as well; conveniently located in his home town of Makkah, or Mecca, about 800 miles SE of Jerusalem.  In the heart of the city was a large masonry structure made of granite.  It is called the Kaaba and in Muhammed’s day, was a center of pagan rituals. Muhammed suggested that it had been built by Abraham and Ishmael to commemorate God’s provision of the burnt offering.  He demanded that it be venerated as a holy place of worship, and exclusive to his his new brand of religion.Mecca is in a valley surrounded by mountains, at an elevation of 900 feet above sea level. Consequently, it does not fit the Biblical account. God specifically instructed Abraham to offer the sacrifice on a mountain that He would reveal.  I have not found any commentary on this discrepancy.

The Kaaba remains the holiest site in all of Islam. It is roughly the shape of a cube and stands nearly 49′ high, with sides measuring 34′ x 39′.  The name Kaaba comes from the Arabic word “muka’ab” meaning “cube”.Muhammed was a member of the Banu Quraish, the dominant tribe in Mecca.  His strident haranguing irritated his clan, but he was provided a measure of protection by his uncle, a tribal elder.  After his uncle died, Muhammed suffered persecution and was forced to move to Medina in 622. This migration is called his Hijra and became the basis of a Muslim pilgrimage. While in Medina, he solidified control over his band of warriors. In the lean times of their movement, they refined their battle tactics by pillaging peaceful trade caravans and murdering the merchants.
In the early years of Islam, Muhammed demanded ritualistic prayer and included the requirement that his followers face Jerusalem. The geographic orientation for prayer is referred to as the qibla. The Jews of Medina resented his co-opting of their holy city for his own purposes and ridiculed him. This is his account of the response from Allah:

“Verily! We have seen the turning of your face towards the heaven; surely we shall turn you to a prayer direction (Qibla) that shall please you..” [surah al-Baqarah; 2:144]According to Muhammed, the fact that the Qiblah was the same as that of the Jews was also because it was a test of his followers’ faith; to see if any of them refused to turn towards the new Qiblah chosen by Allah. This is noted in the Qur’an: “We decreed your former Qiblah only so that We may know the Prophet’s true followers and those who were to deny him. It was indeed a hard test, but not for those whom Allah guided…”

The mosque in which he received his vision came to be called Masjid Qiblatain, the masjid with the two qiblas. It still stands in Medina. After eight years of exile and warfare, he succeeded in the conquest of Mecca in 630. Eight years later, he died while on a Hijra to Medina.In sharp contrast to Jesus, who encouraged his followers to love their enemies and to pray for them, Muhammed commanded his minions to hate their enemies and slay them. This philosophy laid the foundation of Islamic tradition, and would result in a thousand years of conquest and bloodshed.There were other unseemly traits embodied in the warrior Prophet. Although monogamous for most of his life, he married a number of women after the death of his first wife and consumated his marriage to one when she was nine years old.

Muhammed left no heirs, which is the basis for the greatest division within Islam:

Sunni Muslims are the largest denomination of Islam. They are referred to as Ahl ul-Sunna wa-l-Jama’ah, people of tradition and congregation, implying that the Sunnis are united. The word Sunni comes from the word sunna, which means the tradition of the Prophet of Islam. Sunnis represent the branch of Islam that came through the elected caliphates, starting with Abū Bakr.

Shi’a Islam, also Shi’ite Islam, or Shi’ism is the second largest denomination of Islam. It is short for Shī’at ‘Ali, The party of ‘Ali. Shi’a Muslims believe that Muhammad had identified Alī ibn Abī Talib, his cousin and son-in-law, as his chosen successor. They say that Abū Bakr seized power by force and trickery. According to them, all caliphs other than Alī were usurpers. Alī was murdered in a mosque while in prayer, which is the basis for the bloody rivalry that continues into the modern era. It is common for worshippers to be murdered in mosques, or while on pilgrimages to holy sites.

The Islamic quest for world dominion continued unabated for a thousand years, culminating in the Ottoman empire. Suleiman the Magnificent was the last great leader. He completely reconstructed the Ottoman legal system. He was known as a fair ruler and an opponent of corruption. Suleiman was a great patron of artists and philosophers, and was one of the greatest Islamic poets. Considered a pre-eminent ruler of 16th-century Europe, his influence rivaled Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor (1519–56), Francis I of France (1515–47), Henry VIII of England (1509–47), and Ivan IV of Russia (1530–84). The Ottoman Empire realized its Golden Age and was a feared world power under Suleiman. He personally led his armies to conquer Belgrade, Rhodes, most of Hungary, and laid the Siege of Vienna in 1529. He extended the empire through the Middle East and across North Africa as far as Morocco. For a time, he achieved naval dominance in the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, and Persian Gulf. He died in 1566. The Ottoman Empire continued to expand for a century after his death with the high-water mark being the pivotal battle for Vienna in 1683. They were turned back and the millennia of violent Islamic expansion was finally held in check.

The relatively peaceful phase of Islam that followed lasted less than 300 years and is an anomaly when considered in light of the commands of the Qur’an and Islam’s history of warfare.

The COVENANT with Abraham and his DESCENDANTS is central to JUDAISM/CHRISTIANITY/ISLAM.

Early the next morning Abraham gave Hagar an animal skin full of water and some bread. Then he put the boy on her shoulder and sent them away.
GENESIS 16:16 And Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ish’mael. Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ish’mael to Abram.
GENESIS 21:5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
At Genesis 22 Abraham had only 2 sons others came later.
The Quran mentions that it was Ishmael that was sacrificed hence the reference in genesis 22:2 your only son can only mean someone has substituted Ishmael names for Isaac!!

BUT IT IS A DESCRIPTION OF AN INFANT.
Carefully read several times the above passage and then tell me the mental picture you get between the mother child interactions what is the age of the child.
If the mental picture is that of a 17 year old child being carried on the shoulder of his mother, being physically placed in the bush, crying like a baby, mother having to give him water to drink, then the Islamic viewpoint is null and void.
Why is there no verbal communications between mother and (17 YEAR OLD) child?
GENESIS: 21:14 – 21 So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, along with the (17 YEAR OLD) child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-Sheba. When the water in the skin was gone, she cast the (17 YEAR OLD) child under one of the bushes.
Then she went, and sat down over against him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot; for she said,
“Let me not look upon the death of the (17 YEAR OLD) child.” And as she sat over against him, the (17 YEAR OLD) child lifted up his voice and wept. And God heard the voice
