Wreaths at Arlington

Christmas wreaths at Arlington

2007 will mark the 16th anniversary of holiday wreaths being sent from the State of Maine to Arlington National Cemetery. Each year the folks at Worcester Wreath Company make and decorate wreaths that will adorn over 5,000 headstones of our Nation’s fallen heroes – in what has become an annual event coordinated with the Cemetery Administration and the Maine State Society.Over that past fifteen years, Worcester Wreath has donated 75,000 wreaths which were placed by volunteers in a wreath-laying ceremony each December. There are many more graves than they are able to cover each year so they select a different section of the cemetary each year. Their ultimate goal is to cover all graves at least once.

This year, Worcester Wreath Company will do even more to show its respect and appreciation for those who serve. They are donating an additional 4,300 wreaths to be placed at simultaneous wreath-laying ceremonies at multiple sites around America. Finally, they are donating wreaths for 24 veterans cemeteries on foreign soil, and aboard U.S. ships sailing in all seven seas.

Here’s a video clip that tells the story of the man who started this annual event (if you’re receiving an email of this blog posting, you can view the video on the blog page).  Please visit the blog and submit your comments.

It’s a nice change to see appreciation for our fallen and those serving rather than contempt and anger.
